To quote Mr. Thong on the final analysis of what his Chairman Jesus Christ is revealing, “God has a plan for the ages and He has a heart to reach the world…for two thousand years, the church has been working towards the fulfillment of the Great Commission and now we stand in human history, the point at which the Great Commission could be fulfilled and China plays a very significant role because China is not just a missions field, but a missionary force.”

"Can we have the recipe to the salad dressing you made?" - Barbara (middle) and many of us who asked Grace (3rd from left seated) for the recipe to a pineapple/kiwi dressing she had made for her prawn salad.

When Emmie Stanley decided to move into a new place in Langley over a year ago, she had wanted to create a tea room for women who would come and enjoy a time of sharing and caring in a Canadian home. For immigrants, this is more than a tea room; this is a safe haven to develop precious friendships and to hear from one another. Life among the believers spelt out in Acts 2:43-47 ends with what the Lord did . "...And every day the Lord added to their group those who were being saved."

When we open our homes, we invite an openness of hearts. The first week Emmie had invited 10 women from the ESL class in her church to come for a high tea. Gail, one of Emmie's friends demonstrated how to bake scones. Life in Canada was discussed and questions were asked. 14 women came the second week and there they heard a personal testimony from Maxine who told everyone her own challenges coming to Canada as well as how she had met Jesus. They also talked about what heaven could look like. The final week, the women brought food for a potluck. Jean Long from China came to personalize the names of everyone by writing it out calligraphically in Chinese. Shirley shared the Gospel using Intercultural Network's Discovering God in Chinese characters.

Even though everyone who had come were already Christians, I have no doubt that the encouragement of such fellowships in a home will do more to inspire others to open their own hearts and their own homes to the unreached immigrant in our neighbourhoods.

Rwandan Revival Memorial 2007

Thirteen years ago in April 1994, 800,000 to 1 million people died in the space of 100 days while the world watched. The Rwandan genocide has been called humanity’s greatest failure. Florence Nsenga-Drent, from Intercultural Network is more than just a victim; she’s a refugee, a spokesperson and a pioneer. Drumming on her African djembe, this is the fourth Rwandan memorial she has organized. God has placed a powerful words of reconciliation upon her lips.

From Jeremiah 33:3-7,

“Call to me and I will answer you and tell you great and unsearchable things you do not know.” For this is what the LORD, the God of Israel, says about the houses in this city and the royal palaces of Judah that have been torn down to be used against the siege ramps and the sword in the fight with the Babylonians: 'They will be filled with the dead bodies of the men I will slay in my anger and wrath. I will hide my face from this city because of all its wickedness. Nevertheless, I will bring health and healing to it; I will heal my people and will let them enjoy abundant peace and security. I will bring Judah and Israel back from captivity and will rebuild them as they were before.”

Florence has a deep passion to see her people find healing and freedom, which is the reason why when she stirs up Rwandans in the Greater Vancouver area, Nigerians, Congolese, Kenyans, Sudanese and Burandis come. When she calls out to the crowd of sixty people who gathered in Johnston Heights Church if the Spirit of Jeremiah is here, peoples’ heads turn. When she asks how many had a broken heart like Nehemiah had, people are visibly struck. When she voices the question “what do you have to give” in the same vein as the widow whose oil pot never run out, peoples’ faith begins to turn to God. Finally, she challenges those present to develop the spirit of Esther. Thirteen years is a long time to grieve. Now is the day of rebuilding. Now is the time of revival.

With Nikki White and her band accompanying us in a time of worship, we sang in Swahili, Rwandese and English. Iyo manu yacu, or How Great is our God!

Florence’s sons Emmanuel recited his heart-felt poem and Ian, Alvin and their friend rapped and hip-hopped renewal and revival. Wellsprings Ministries has starting the process of rebuilding this nation four years ago by opening Christian schools in rural areas. One school had just opened in January 2007 with 126 students. Even as the night progressed, full containers of books and computers are making their way towards Kigali.

The future of Rwanda belong to the next generation and as pastors stood up one by one, shoulder to shoulder began to pray revival, health and healing, the air was electric with the song of He reigns.

International Women's Day Home Party #2

A Night to Remember

When Florence, an immigrant from Rwanda, decided to host a special outreach dinner party for young African women at her home on International Women’s Day, she wasn’t sure what kind of response to expect. But when 27 guests accepted the invitation, she knew she’d made the right decision.

““It’s not about how you look on the outside,” explained Nadia, a former Muslim who immigrated to Canada as a refugee at 14. “We will all get old and beauty doesn’t last. It’s about finding the One who made you and loves you and makes you complete. Jesus can take all your pain and give you good things instead. He is the friend you need.”

Later in the evening, when a gospel presentation was given, two guests indicated decisions for Jesus. Four days later, Florence was thrilled when two more women accepted Christ.

Overjoyed at the fruit she is seeing, Florence has since decided to start a Bible study where seekers can learn more and new believers can be grounded in their faith.

Florence and Casey Drent opened her home to host IWD 2007 in her place of worship which is her beautifully decorated basement. Young single women from Ethiopia, Kenya, Sierra Leone, Ghana, Kelowna, India, Rwanda and Canada came on 10 March.

Florence welcoming all the young handmaidens into a place of refuge and comfort.

International Women's Day Home Party #1

Happy International Womens' Day in the home.

Crystal shared the story behind this candle holder that her husband Klaus had made when they were still living in Germany.With 3 horse shoes as the base and twisting a bar of iron to have a corkscrew body to hold a plate for the candle, we were fascinated by her story. Having been in Canada for 27 years, Crystal now sees Canada as her home country.

Here was the 5 minute demonstration on how to make the quickest, easiest, no-fuss egg tarts for dessert.

We each took a "Spice for Life" card to talk about building our home here in Canada. Here is Heather sharing about her cancer scare after she had moved out to BC fom Montreal, Quebec.

Jessie Park, the 14 year old violinist who lives next door entertained us with a beautiful concerto. It was a beautiful way to end the very sumptious meal.

Hot egg tarts for dessert!

Praise the Lord for these beautiful faces, from different nations, different tribes and different tongues. Sharing what homecoming is all about, and what Jesus had done to prepare a home for us made this gathering unique. One person received Christ and two other home parties are being planned for April and May from this group.

Chinese New Year Outreach Results

The evening started promptly with appetizers and a hungry crowd. The mood was extremely festive and everyone came with the intention to enjoy themeselves with their friends and great food.

Samuel Chua, our emcee, bantered with the crowd right from the get go.

A table of friends who wanted to celebrate Chinese New year together. For a few of them, it's the first time they have heard the gospel presentation in the culture of their language.

Betty and Samuel busied about the entire two hours giving out lots of prizes.

It was the first time Intercultural Network Canada partnered with Campus Alumni Network and the results were astonishing. Lending the theme that it's yun yaat (Cantonese for "everyone's birthday"), the 7th day of the lunar calendar is a great day to start the new year afresh. Using the Discovering God in Chinese characters to explain the creation of man, to the fall of man, to the redemption of man, the 15 min power point presentation ended with the invitation to receive Jesus Christ as their personal saviour. Seven people were spiritually born this day when they chose to receive the lamb of God. It's been said that seekers seeking the truth and finding it must be the most fortunate people in the world.

Fortune probably has little or nothing to do with what is truly a miracle of God.

Celebrating International Women's Day 2007 party plans!

INTERNATIONAL WOMEN'S DAY will be celebrated in the entire month of March 2007 and this year the theme is THE POWER OF HOME. (Think of H.O.M.E as Helping Others More Effectively)

We are calling women to open their homes to invite their friends and neighbours to have a party. Some ideas include:
- Teaching a craft; flower arrangement, origami, scrapbooking
- Having a potluck
- Having a food demostration
- Sharing someone's faith journey
- Teaching a song in your native language

We have a package in which you can purchase called Party Hints (for $8) that has invitations, ice-breaker questions, ideas for crafts and how to pull your team together to throw a successful party in your home. Home is where your heart is, and if Jesus is in your heart, the women coming into your home will find it wonderfully warm. The purpose of these home parties is to introduce Jesus to them, gently and with love.

The night we prayed for God's healing in Shri Lanka

The Shri Lankan evening of prayer, set on the verse in 2 Chronicles 7:14 saw 60+ people attend to pray and intercede for the country called the pearl of the Indian Ocean. It started sharp at 530pm with worship leader Alissio leading in 6 songs, followed by Janet Fierbach from Intercultural Network who elaborated on the same Scriptural passage- exhorting us who are children of God, to humble ourselves, to cry out to God because the problems Shri Lanka faces today are beyond our comprehension and control. They might be for us, but it isn't for God.

With Esther Illangakoon representing the Singhalese, Sam Alangaramoney representing the Tamils, Wyndham Blom representing the Burghers and Yasmin Mihlar Shu representing the Moors, the four ethnic groups came together in repentance before God in an act of faith that God will hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and heal their land.

We took time to pray at our tables, led by Yasmin who walked us through praying for leaders and influencers, for the hurting and the wounded, against the persecution of the church, the ongoing corruption, and the anti-conversion law. Aaron Rogers from Global Aid Network, also shared with us his eye-witness accounts of the damage the Southern coastline had suffered from the 2004 tsunami. While there is a lot of civil, political and religious tension present, there were also glimmers of hope that much good would come out of these tragedies. More than 100 church pastors had led the way to bring food and equipment to all who needed it, thus taking the opportunity to share the Gospel to an otherwise hostile crowd. It was an awesome time of coming together to seek God's face for a country where we simply believe that God is not done with bringing the lustre back to this beautiful country of Shri Lanka.

Discover God in Chinese characters Workshop

Intercultural Network, Canada did our first Discovering God in Chinese characters workshop in Willingdon Church in Burnaby last Saturday 3 Feb 2007. We had 20 attendees and 14 of us went to Crystal Mall to evangelize a lively crowd of Asian shoppers. Here's what some of them said:

"I almost fainted when you said we would go out to evangelize in a mall, but after doing that, I'm not so afraid of sharing this with my family." - Pam Hong, from South Africa

Testimonial Workshop

Intercultural Network, Canada had our first Testimonial Workshop in 2007 at Johnston Heights EFC in Surrey. 20 people from the church working with the Food Bank, Community Meals and Night Shift came to the training in order to have their 3- minute introduction to who Jesus is via their personal journeys. Starting at 10am and ending at 3:30pm, those who had come had a conversational outline of what they could possibly share with the homeless, the hungry and the needy. It was a wonderful day encountering God through the many bejewelled facets of peoples' lives.
